Will Linsanity Continue in H-Town?

Linsanity took the league by storm last season. It was a phenomenon that no one saw coming. In fact, not even the man behind Linsanity knew it was going to happen.

Jeremy Lin, an undrafted point guard out of Harvard found success last season with the New York Knicks. A team that was desperate for any signs of life, Mike D’antoni dug deep into his bench and inserted Jeremy Lin into the game. With nothing to lose, D’antoni allowed Jeremy Lin to take control of his fast paced offense. The Knicks won. They started winning.

The Knicks kept winning, while Jeremy Lin kept grinning.

With so much confidence in him, Jeremy Lin was playing out of his mind! He dropped 38 points on Kobe’s Lakers; toyed with the then defending champs Dallas Mavericks, and made Deron Williams look like a fool. He also hit a game winner against Toronto, and many many more. Jeremy Lin became an instant sensation called Linsanity.

Unfortunately, Lin injured his knee and the Knicks went back to going to Carmelo Anthony on offense. With D’antoni leaving the team, Mike Woodson went to an Iso-oriented offense featuring one of the best scorers in the league. The Knicks continued winning behind Melo’ while Lin was wore a suit on the bench.

Eventually, the Knicks lost to the Miami Heat (4-1) and were bounced out of the playoffs. Lin and the team looked forward to next season, hoping that a healthy squad is enough to defeat the Heat.

But due to an unexpected twist of events, Jeremy Lin did not get a contract offer from the Knicks. The Houston Rockets on the other hand, offered Jeremy Lin a 3 year $25 million contract. The Knicks, despite saying all along that they will match ANY OFFER, decided that they didn’t want to match after all. They allowed Jeremy Lin to walk, for absolutely nothing.

Just like that, Linsanity ended in Broadway.

But this doesn’t mean that Linsanity is officially over! Jeremy Lin took his talents to Houston to the tune of $25 million, which Carmelo Anthony called a “ridiculous contract” in an interview. Lin needs to relive Linsanity and live up to his contract.

This is the first time in NBA history that someone who has done so little get this much adulation and a lucrative contract. Jeremy Lin will have a chance to prove himself to the doubters and naysayers. Lin will have the keys to the franchise in Houston. He will orchestrate the offense and lead the Rockets; hopefully to the playoffs.

Jeremy Lin is coming off of a knee injury that he suffered last season. And so far in preseason, Lin has been disappointing. He admitted that his explosiveness and speed isn’t where it was before due to the injury. He vows that he will be 100% eventually during the season, but for now, Linsanity is still recovering.

Jeremy Lin better pick it up quick, because as of right now, Lin isn’t playing like he’s someone worth the contract..
